2012

have a happy and safe new year!

We will open the book.  Its pages are blank.
We are going to put words on them ourselves.
The book is called Opportunity
and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

my big idea

i was at an antique store, a few weeks ago, surprise, surprise and saw something similar to the display above.  the set at the antique store had tinsel roping around the edges, alternated red and green felt (not sure if i like the colors i picked, i'm thinking i should have gone with the gap SALE holiday colors).  the antique store display had more modern looking wood letters and were painted silver with glitter added.   i had gotten this set of red wood letters at elkorn flea market last summer for $5.  i thought i would try something similar with my set for the area above my kitchen cabinets.

oops, it's a little big.

a house without a christmas tree

this is a great little made for tv movie that was made back in 1972.  a young girl living in nebraska in 1946 wants nothing more than a christmas tree, but her father is bitter and refuses to have one due to previous events.  It stars Jason Robards (who is great in all the presidents men) mildred natwick (who is also great in barefoot in the park) and Lisa Lucas.  I found the dvd a few years ago, it is available on amazon.  the movie reminds me of the sweet story Gracie's Cottage was sharing a few days ago.
have a cup of cocoa, a few tissues and enjoy.

yule love it

how cute it this!
i headed to a local holiday craft fair, the holiday craftactular with my friend denise and decided to stop at the daisy cafe for some tasty breakfast, and maybe a cupcake for desert before tackling the craftacular.
this is what greats you as you enter the door.
the cupcakes are as tasty as they look. i had a strawberry champagne cupcake and denise had the "see the blazing yule before us" log.
one last look at the log, before it was gone....

I shopped small

i shopped small last saturday,  on "shop small biz saturday" and had good fortune at the small shops that i visited.  I found this little guy as a cute shop in Paoli called the Cottage Goddess. Turns out the owner's daughter makes these little fellas for the shop.

this cute little pig cutting board was from a weekend sale put on by a co-worker of mine.  It is one of several cutting boards she made for the sale.  she was nice to let me sell a few vintage items during the weekend, but i couldn't pass up this cute little guy..
down the road in a small town, brooklyn, wisconson not brooklyn, ny i found a cute consignment shop housed in what was previously the neighborhood grocery store, very cute.  it was a functioning grocery store up until 2 years ago.  I didn't have my camera, will have to go back and take photos. i picked up a couple of these glasses, would love to know the history of them.
found this holiday key chain holder at a small antique store, the opera house antique mall, in lake mills, wi.   I think santa will be hanging his keys to the sleigh on this.

leon

I have been looking for the noel angels for awhile.  I found a set on etsy from Magpie Ethel.   my in-laws always had one displayed at Christmas, but it didn't stay this way for long before one of the boys got a hold of it.
leon has arrived for the holidays.

foster cheese house

a few weeks ago we were up north at the farm and we had breakfast at the foster cheese house just down the road in foster.  it's a very nice cheese shop but it also has a great little cafe inside.
here is the wood fire that they use to make wood fire pizzas, need to try that out next.
grandma's still deciding.
talk about fresh cream, it comes from the castle rock dairy maybe a couple miles down the road from the cheese shop.
my breakfast, yum!  homemade bread, homemade jam.
castle rock milk, the milkman will deliver if you live in the area.
castle rock cheese and they also have castle rock ice cream.
