fresh cut trees

there are alot of fun vehicles in blogland bringing home trees this season.  I thought i would put together a few with my fleet. as you can see the wisconsin winter has been hard on this family wagon.

of course you need the big trucks to bring the trees to town.

this is a nod to when my family moved from california to wisconsin.  I remember going over a bridge like this, if my memory serves me right.  we arrived the end of november to the most beautiful snowfall.  it wasn't in a red bug, but a vw camper.  my parents did have a red bug but sold it when we got the camper and took a month traveling from california to wisconsin.

chocolate cafe

a few weeks ago my friend denise heard about this new cafe opening up called the chocolaterian cafe - translation "chocolate cafe"  well we had to stop in and check it out.  The owner runs Christine's Toffe.
her toffee was part of the emmy 2011 swag bags.

the cafe is next to a bank that i worked at a few years ago.  when i worked at the bank the space was Schenk-Huegel uniform shop.  why couldn't it have been the cafe when i was right next door?

delish.

and more delish.

this sign was actually in the basement in the bank i worked at, i passed it many a time wishing i could snatch it up.  but it is good to see that it's out of the basement and placed where more people can see it while enjoying delishes treats at the chocolaterian cafe

urban vintage oasis

we made it!  my friend Kathy and i headed down to rockford, il for the opening weekend of the urban farmgirl shop.  good old mapquest gave me directions via the backroads, maybe it picked up on the "farm" and not "urban' name and not realizing it we got lost.  let's just say we gave a little extra change to the illinois tollway.

it was worth the drive - driving.  great shop. we were there on saturday, and she sold lots the two days before but we found a few treasures.  my friend actually bought the cutest buffet and gosh darn we didn't have a big enough vehicle to take it back with us so we have to go down again to pick it up.

all the items mary paints are beautiful, just perfect.  she was so nice chatting with us even though she was so busy with customers, restocking, fluffing the store.

cool old trunk, came from my neck of the woods.  actually know a family with the name maug.

how sweet are these.

the shop is in the cutest neighborhood, love this little house.
how lucky are the neighbors to have such a wonderful new neighbor.

got me a souvenir

i was wandering an antique store last week and happened to look up and found this treasure, at least i think it's a treasure. it blended in with the wall, almost missed it.  it's a non-working neon sign but that is ok, i like it as is.  i think it will look great with vintage summer travel items.
sorry for the bad background, i will post another photo of it when i figure out the perfect
location, arrangement for the
souvenir of all souvenirs.

shop small - small shop

i didn't make it out saturday for shop small saturday, but i did make it out today for a bit and made my way to a few small shops.  we will call it "shop small saturday on sunday".

so i went looking for the smallest shop i could find.

and as you can see it is tiny.  it was also closed, as it was sunday and i believe the owner had another event going on, but that's ok, will check it out another time.  the owner of the Glitter Workshop, ran the flea market that i was in this past summer.

so i just peeked in the windows.

oh deer, will have to come back another time.

fall change

finally got halloween put away and started to get into fall around the house.

love this decanter i found on etsy.

trying a little chalk art.  there are many creative folks on etsy that offer permanent chalkboard art such as cj hughes.  love his stuff.

now you see it.....

now you don't.  need more practice, mine won't be permanent anytime soon, i will have to stick with the old fashion chalk "art".

whooo whooo!

had a fun halloween?

this cute scene is by Kari from Meadowview Farm.  She has a booth and case at the Hixton Antique Mall  (the previous home of the cutest pink typewriter ever).

she also has a great barn sale at her farm which we ran into by chance a few years ago.

long or short story - she came to a garage sale that i had years ago.   we chatted and i found out she had a booth that i always checked out whenever i was at the columbus antique mall.   anywho, fast forward a few more years, i was at the antique mall and in her booth she had a note saying she was closing up and moving up north, needless to say i was bummed.  fast forward a couple years again we were at my parents up north and my mom and i went to an antique store. while there we found out about a barn sale going on.  we headed over and luck be had it was Kari's barn.  she recognized me from the garage sale i had due to vintage tablecloths i had hung to hide ugly garage stuff.   so happy that she is back in business at Hixton.

got candy?

it's almost time for......

this was my favorite candy back in my trick or treat days,
candy "cigarettes".
luckily i can still find them at the only ben franklin left in town.

i found the candy sign at the waterloo antique mall, it was in kathy's booth, down lilac lane.

what was your favorite candy at halloween?
