thanks dad

my dad served in the korean war for a year and a half.    he served at the ripe old age of 20.  he is the 3rd one in on the top row.  he was a mp and made it to sargent earning a few medals.  he is a pretty humble guy and when we mentioned the medals he said they gave medals out to everyone.  we were at the farm this weekend and his favorite tv channels are an all western channel, amc or tcm.  amc was on and they were having a war heroes weekend and rick started asking him about the korean war.  he shared quit a few stories, being a mp you can imagine he had a few.  he told how a big wig general came thru the gate when he was on post duty and he didn't have the password to get thru, they had a new password everyday.  the big wig said you know me i'm  so and so, dad said sorry, a little nervously, wasn't sure it this was a test or real and told the general he couln't come thru.
the sargent with the general came back and told dad he did a good job.  as dad was telling this the words were coming out slower and his eye's welled up, emotions are still there.

thanks dad and thanks to all who have served and their families.

wauna sale

had some luck at the hometown citywide garage sales.  if you need kids items you would have no problem finding it, which makes my treasure hunt a bit tougher.

I wish i would have brought my camera with me.  i stopped at the cutest house selling vintage items. It also had a "pop-up-cafe" selling tarts, scones, cookies, coffee and the pretties "vintage" flower bouquets.  the display was so cute.  the young couple had 3 little helpers, maybe they are home schooled?  learning about being a small business owner?  the little boy who took my money asked if it was for here or to go? it was so cute.  they had 2 little tables set-up under the big trees with paper lanterns hanging down.   i tried a strawberry/rhubarb tart - very good.  i went back yesterday to try another treat and take photos but they weren't set-up.  hope they are back next year.

i really like the old wood record player, never have seen something like this before.  i cut the old wires, spiffed it up and it looks great.

love garage sales!

phone home

i found a black wall phone at an estate sale this last weekend.  i have been wanting one for awhile, checking etsy, ebay, antique stores and nothing has shown up
in my price range - cheap.

The home was teeny tiny and loaded with shoppers.  the only problem was the phone was still attached to the wall, it had a price tag on it so they wanted to sell it.  i told the very nice young man who was trying to get it off the wall, i would come back in a few hours so as to not push my luck.  he agreed and i headed for the check out with the couple items I did find not attached to anything.  i told the guy at the checkout my story about the phone in the basement,  that i had the phone on hold and he asked me -
dramatic pause............................. did you see the one in the garage?
whaaat???
oh boy, maybe this one would be easier to dislodge.  so out to the garage i go, found it and the guy in the garage tried to take it down, no luck, stuck on good.  so back in the house and tell the guy i will take both if they can, will get them off the wall.  long story short -

you are seeing double.

they were so nice at the sale and helped me out.  there is a some wear on the phones and now i need to find someone to retrofit them to working status.
oh and the best part, they were in my price range $2 each!
