sunny days

well another city wide garage sales come and gone.

our small town gets busy during

the annual city wide garage sales.

i had some good luck this year finding a few treasures.

no need for an umbrella, the weather was beautiful.

in fact i found a beautiful umbrella.

here it is at the garage sale. 

and here it is in our backyard!

a guy was selling his aunts items and this was her patio set. 

it looks like it was never used, the reason

for this was she had is set-up 

in her basement! 

we are going to enjoy it in the great outdoors,

but might have to follow her lead and set it up 

in the basement when winter comes.

i have been having really good luck

with finging vintage scales lately

and it's a-o-k with me.

(the cute ice cream cone bank was a gift from my friend denise)

june dairy month.

this was a great garage sale day.

the red scale - 5 bucks!

globes, 2 bucks each.

hope the good garage sale/scale luck keeps tipping in my favor.

looks like scary ryan gosling.

it wasn't at a garage sale but at a resale shop.

here's my latest find.

i found it at a garage sale last week.

you knew it had to be a good sale when they had a 

vintage vw van in the driveway.

I have never seen one of these before but it hypnotized me

and said take me home when it spun around.

the folks having the sale had to be in their late 70's early 80's and the lady said

they used it with a color wheel.

a color wheel for aluminum christmas trees???

 soooooo....

is it from the 60's?

i can't find anything info on it so far.

it's plastic and comes apart at the middle 

and the inside looks like the outside,

just much more shiny.

any ideas anyone?

i keep calling it a disco ball.

but i am wondering if it 

is some kind of 

holiday decoration.

need to ask the 

disco ball.......

what does the bear say

found this little feller at a church rumage sale.

haven't had a ton of luck at garage sales this spring,

but was happy to pick up this

little vintage souvenir ceramic bobblehead bear

 for 25 cents.

he was dusty and dirty when i found him and

he has a crack along his face.

 we'll pretend its from a little tussle 

with his brother or sister when they were bear cubs.

i hadn't heard of danbury wisconsin 

before i found the little fellow.

i looked it up on the map and it's up north 

close to the minnesota boarder.

not sure what is was known for (bears?) as a destination place

 back in the day,

but it must have been something to afford having it's own 

bobblehead bear.

and attempted to bring this gypsie kart back.

i took friday off to hit the new glarus city wide garage sales.  new glarus ("america's little switzerland" and home to the new glarus brewery - famous for it's spotted cow brew) is a cute little town about 30 miles south of madison.  many years ago my friend kathy/kate and i had an antique booth in town, started it right when gas price went sky high and folks stopped venturing out for sunday drives so timing wasn't the best.  anywho, thought i would take advantage a beautiful summer day and venture south and visit the old neighborhood. 

on the way out of town i hit a few garage sales in madison and found the coolest vintage screen.

and ta-dah - it snaps in place and you are good to go.

not sure how old it is, the company is still in business.   

knew i was going to have a fun day when this was one of the 1st things i saw on my garage sale adventure. 

not for sale though.........

got one!

i finally found it. 

 i have been on the look out for this betty crocker cook book but they are crazy expensive, not sure why. 

 it is in really bad shape, but for a buck at a garage sale, what the heck i splurged.

as you can see it is what my friend denise calls

"well loved"  it was grama ruth's cookbook given to her by krissy in 1964.

 i am finding fun items in the cookbook that were added by ruth and makes this cookbook worth more than one of those expensive vintage ones. 

bonus! 

 the best-ever lemon pie recipe given to ann landers by a cab driver in new york.

how cool is the garage sale map cover. the artist is John R. Sargent. 

 (not to be confused with john singer sargent, one of my favorites)

He is selling prints and greeting cards of the cover and proceeds of sales purchased may 9-11 benefit the W.E.B. Food Pantry.

i had a little luck in todays hunt, guess you could say big.....luck.

no not this, darn.  i tried. the husband would like to sell it but the wife doesn't want to.....humm.

they weren't sure of their history.  someone thought they were in a neighborhood bar back in the day.  

the photos look like they were taken in the wisconsin dells area. 

would love to know the history.
