best day

happy thanksgiving!
hope you have the best pie, turkey, parade watching day ever!

pie seems to be a big theme around here.
guess since i lived in pie town, aka "Norske Nook" it makes sense.

another wonderful pie place is in savannah, georgia.
i made the pie banner after visiting
how to instructions are in their latest cookbook.

today is the best day!

happy 4th of July!

hope you all have a fun and safe holiday!
this is my little homage to the
wall in savanah, georgia.
you can see the post here.

i didn't have quite as large of space as the bakery,
so mine is a scaled down version.
i tried to use what i had and if i didn't have it make it.
flag- .60 fabric remenant at resale shop
pie pan - $1
scale - $5
print - ? purchased years ago
homemade sign - homemade by me :)
pie banner - also homemade by me

below are a few more sparkles of red, white and blue
 around the house.

happy 4th from wisconsin!

rhubarb pie oh my!

keeping the pie theme going, my best pie is
rhubarb pie, at least i think so anyway.

i should have taken a photo of the pie before it was gone,
but it didn't work out that way......

but here is the recipe that i have used forever,
it's from the good ol' better homes and garden
red plaid cookbook.
mine is from the late 70's.
use your favorite crust recipe
and you too will be looking at an empty plate.

best pie

hope you all have seen and purchased the latest
"back in the day bakery made with love" book.
it's full of great recipes and even some fun make-it-yourself projects.

i took this photo when we stopped at the back in the bakery in savanah last february.
i love this wall and took the photo in hopes to sort of recreate it.
especially the best pie banner.

and voila (wa lah) they show how to make them
in the book.

i wanted to use barkcloth for the background like they do in the bakery, book, but am having a hard time finding
the right pattern.
 and price for that matter,
as i just want a small piece and bark cloth can get pricey.
for the above piece i used wool felt for the background.
hopefully i will have a finished wall photo
for you to see soon, but i don't think
i will win a "best banner" for my banner.
